Rickenbacker Cars

Its a family connection…old cars & second cousins.

Milt Schilde is a distant cousin of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker. Eddie Rickenbacker was an early race car driver who drove in the 1912, 1914, 1915, and 1916 Indianapolis 500. He became a World War I "Ace of Aces" fighter pilot and registered 26 kills. He won the Medal of Honor for his service.

Following World War I, he formed the Rickenbacker Motor Car Company in 1921. The company built cars until 1927. In 1927, Eddie bought and managed the Indianapolis Motor Speedway until World War II started. In 1938, he purchased Eastern Airlines which he ran until 1959. Milt and his son, Tim, have actively collected and restored Rickenbacker Motor cars. They currently own 6 Rickenbacker cars. Milt is Club Historian for the Rickenbacker Club of America.

The "Hat-in-the Ring" symbol comes from the insignia of the 94th Air Squadron in WWI, the squadron to which Eddie belonged.
